Flooding in Thailand NOT affecting Cincinnati Honda Dealers

thailand flood, Superior Honda, Superior Honda Cincinnati, Honda dealership Cincinnati, Honda dealerships Cincinnati, Honda dealer CincinnatiThere’s good news again for Cincinnati Honda Dealerships like Superior Honda. Honda says the redesigned 2012 CR-V will arrive at dealerships next month as originally planned, this is a change from an earlier statement which claimed that flooding in Thailand could delay the small crossover’s launch by several weeks.

Although no U.S.-bound Honda vehicles come from Thailand, parts sourcing — including certain electrical components, Honda says — prompted the automaker to trim production at its U.S. plants beginning last Wednesday. That could continue for several weeks, Honda says, but it won’t affect CR-V timing…which is good new for those of you who are looking to getting a new 2012 CR-V.

Now for those of you who don’t run Honda Dealerships in Cincinnati, you may be aware of the flooding in Thailand, but you probably don’t know that Thailand is a major hub for Southeast Asian auto manufacturing, with assembly plants from many major brands, not to mention numerous suppliers.. The country’s worst flooding in 50 years has a competing manufacturer trimming production at U.S. facilities, but other major automakers tell us their U.S. operations will remain unaffected.

Superior Honda will keep you posted on the situation as it affects specific Honda models. As for the 2012 CR-V? Come and get ‘em.!

Honda Insight Makes Popular Mechanic’s High-Mileage Cars List

Gas prices are outrageous across the nation. The national average as of today is 3.686. Wow. Here in Ohio, we’re seeing an average of 3.666. We aren’t beating the nation by much, but I’ll take it. At least we’re not seeing 4.05… which is the average in New York City. There’s something to be thankful about.

Since gas prices have been an issue for at least the last five years, auto manufacturers are constantly looking for ways to improve fuel economy in their cars. Recently, Popular Mechanics compiled a list of its top high-mileage cars and the Honda Insight made the cut. Let’s see what they have to say about this little four-door hatchback hybrid.

Honda Insight

Price as Tested: $23,810

PM-Tested Fuel Economy (city/hwy): 45.3/43.3

The Insight has returned as a true Toyota Prius competitor. The aerodynamic four-door hatchback mirrors the profile of the Prius, a shape that proudly says “dedicated hybrid.” Yet the Insight’s price undercuts the Toyota’s. One reason is Honda’s much simpler hybrid system: A 13-hp electric motor is sandwiched between the 1.3-liter engine and the CVT. Unlike the Toyota or Ford hybrid systems, however, the Honda does not allow prolonged electric-only operation, because the little electric motor just doesn’t have enough juice. The Insight switches to electric-only power when cruising at low speeds. In that case, the VTEC system idles the valves, so the engine still spins, but it doesn’t consume any fuel. Yet the gas engine must start at stoplights to power the air conditioning. So if you select Eco mode, you have to forgo a/c when stopped.

We ran in this mode during our testing, and though the cabin did get hot, we were able to generate a solid 45.3 mpg in the city. The Insight rides a bit rougher than the Prius, and doesn’t feel quite as polished or upscale. As a featherweight, it does struggle to maintain a consistent heading on freeways with high crosswinds. Around town, the Insight feels sporty and light on its feet as it jousts through traffic. There’s an honest simplicity to the Honda. Like a Civic from the 1980s, the Insight feels tight, as though it would run reliably for decades.

Daily Driving Reminders That Could Save Your Life.

This is probably one of the most important blogs I feel like I can write for you. Drinking and driving is no laughing matter. You could get seriously injured or even seriously injure someone else. I could sit here and spit out statistics but I won’t. I think everyone has heard stories, everyone has seen the news, everyone knows how dangerous it is. I just think a lot of people think to themselves…. Oh that I won’t happen to me. That’s where you are wrong. You may have gotten lucky in the past but you can’t continue to test your luck. You will eventually get a DWI, wreck, or even die. The death of Ryan Dunn reminds us all that drinking and driving should not be tolerated. This blog post that I am sharing with you was written by Consumer Reports but I wanted to share it with you because it’s got some great information in it that you should know.

After the horrific car crash of “Jackass” star Ryan Dunn early Monday morning, police have revealed that he was driving with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .196—twice the legal limit.

Dunn was reportedly traveling 140 mph on a 55 mph road when he crashed his Porsche 911 GT3 through a guardrail and into the woods where it hit a tree and burst into flames. Dunn and his passenger, Zachary Hartwell, died at the scene. Crashes like this serve as a sad reminder of the dangers of driving drunk.

Apparently, Dunn had an earlier DUI crash a few years ago, but was able to clear his record through court requirements and wasn’t required to install an alcohol interlock device on his vehicle. If he had survived this crash, Dunn’s future vehicles would’ve been mandated to have this device for at least one year after his license was reinstated.

Alcohol interlocks are one way the government is hoping to reduce the 11,000 deaths each year from drunk driving. Forty-nine states have some type of interlock requirement and 11 states have mandatory provisions after the first conviction. The system requires the driver to blow into the device to check for alcohol for the vehicle to start.

Currently, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is conducting their “Over the Limit, Under Arrest” campaign through July 4th in an effort to ticket drunk drivers before a deadly accident occurs.

This week and next week are full of graduation parties, 4th of July picnics, and other summer festivities. Make it safe for you and others on the road by following important these tips.

  • If you are planning to drink alcohol, designate a sober driver before going out.
  • If you are impaired, do not drive. Hail a taxi, use mass transit, or call a sober friend or family member to get you home safely.
  • Plan ahead and pack a bag to stay over someone’s house if you know you will be drinking.
  • Report impaired drivers you see on the roadways immediately to law enforcement by calling 911.
  • Always wear your safety belt while in a car or use a helmet and protective gear when on a motorcycle.
  • If you see someone about to drive drunk or ride with someone who is impaired, take the keys and help them get to where they are going safely.

This was the best buying expeience!!! First of all this is the first review i have ever written. With that being said, Superior Honda was wonderful to deal with. From when I talked to them on the phone to when I came in the Dealership the treated me like a king. They had the best price and it was a great experience. I will be buying all my cars there in the future.

Cincinnati Do You Love Hybrids?

Have you had the pleasure of checking out the Hybrids that Honda has to offer? We love going green so much we were just ecstatic when we learned from AutoBlog that Cincinnati came in as the #64 city in the US on the list of 210 cities that love their Hybrids. Out of all the cities in the United States I think that’s a pretty good start. Do you know what a Hybrid is and why it is so important to our environment? Below courtesy of Edmunds.com is the definition of a Hybrid vehicle. Not to be confused with an electric car.

Hybrid Defined:

A vehicle is a hybrid if it utilizes more than one form of onboard energy to achieve propulsion. In practice, that means a hybrid will have a traditional internal combustion engine and a fuel tank, as well as one or more electric motors and a battery pack.

Hybrid cars are sometimes mistakenly confused with electric vehicles. Hybrids are most often gasoline-burning machines that utilize their electric bits to collect and reuse energy that normally goes to waste in standard cars. Theoretically, diesel-electric hybrids would be even more fuel-efficient, but hybrid systems and diesel engines both represent extra cost. Installing both in the same vehicle would be prohibitively expensive.

Hybrid Glossary:

Motor-generator (MG for short): The more accurate term for the electric motor. It provides supplemental acceleration “oomph” when operating as a motor by drawing electricity from the battery. Several hybrids have two, and a few models employ three.

Start-stop: Present on all hybrids, the engine’s traditional starter motor is absent because the MG takes on that function, too. Hybrid control software shuts the engine off while stopped at traffic signals and automatically restarts it again with the MG when the driver releases the brake pedal. Eliminating the fuel waste of an idling gas engine causes overall mpg to climb significantly and tailpipe emissions to drop, especially in town. An idling engine consumes fuel at the rate of zero miles per gallon.

Regenerative braking: An important function of the MG is to generate electricity to recharge the battery as it absorbs a portion of the vehicle’s momentum when slowing or coasting downhill. Normal cars waste all of their excess momentum as heat in the brakes. Regenerative braking is insufficient to stop a car quickly, so conventional hydraulic brakes are still necessary.

Electric drive: Operating the vehicle on electric power alone, possible if the hybrid system has enough electrical capacity. The maximum speed and distance over which electric-only operation is possible varies from essentially zero to a handful of miles, and has everything to do with the weight and aerodynamics of the vehicle, the strength of the MG and more than anything else, the capacity of the battery.

Not all hybrids possess these attributes in equal measure, nor do they operate the same way. It all begins with the layout of the system.

Do you have a Hybrid? If so, what is it that you love most about it? If you don’t have one yet then maybe you should check out your local Cincinnati Honda Dealer and stop by for a test drive.
